Reuniting Pets and People

We can help reunite the pet that you have found with their owner. Most found pets are simply lost and not abandoned. Bringing the pet to the shelter is often the best way to reunite a pet with their owner (and to protect your own liability and comply with State and County laws as a finder). Additionally, bringing the pet to us is also the quickest path to adoption if no owner can be located.

While you must report any pet that you find, you can either bring the pet to the shelter or care for it yourself while the owner is searched for. The forms linked below are processed through the Pet Harbor software program that we also use to keep track of lost pets and animals in our shelter. Follow the instructions, including clicking submit at the bottom and then "activating" the registration via the email that they send you.

In Person or By Phone

You can also register the pet you found by coming to the shelter during business hours or by calling us at 503-846-7039. If you call, please keep in mind that our staff is often busy helping other citizens or caring for animals in the shelter, so if there is no answer, please leave a detailed message with your name, phone number, city where you live, a description of the pet, and any identifying information such as a microchip number. We will return your call as soon as we can. We are closed on Sundays and holidays; if you call on those days your call will be returned as soon as possible on the next business day.
