Martie the Dog Speaks About Fame

Hello there. My name is Martie. Of course, you probably know that, since I'm sure you saw me on television this morning. (The photo below is of me in a totally cool holiday bow tie.)

 Martie (Small)

I had my television debut on NewsChannel 8 Sunrise waaaay before dawn this morning. I was a STAR! Anyway, here's how it all came about:

The great people at Metro West Ambulance put together a super-duper decorated tree for the Providence Festival of Trees. That in itself is a really good deed – the sale of the fancy trees goes to support the great programs that Providence does in the community. But that wasn't enough goodness for Metro West. They called the shelter and said they wanted their tree to also bring attention to the needs of homeless animals. Is that great or what?!

So, on Wednesday night, my little buddy Waylin was at the Convention Center representing the Bonnie L. Hays Small Animal Shelter at the big Festival of Trees gala. He was so popular that Channel 8 wanted to feature us in their Friday morning coverage of all the Festival activities. But someone fell in love with Waylin at the gala, and came to the shelter the next day to adopt him. I was selected to be the official spokesdog for the shelter for the television interview.

We left the shelter long before sunrise to go to the Festival of Trees for our big interview. (Talk about a great place! The only thing better than a Festival of Trees from my perspective would be a Festival of Fire Hydrants! But I digress….)

Anyway, that really funny, really nice Drew Carney from NewsChannel 8 interviewed us. He made sure that everyone knows that I'm a super cool dog and available for adoption. I had a lot of fun, met some of the nicest people you can imagine from Metro West, Providence and Channel 8.

I even behaved myself despite being surrounded by trees. I really am a very good boy.

Now I wonder if we'll have the paparazzi (or is that "pup"-arazzi?) hanging out at the shelter to try to catch a glimpse of me. Better yet, maybe someone fabulous will come by the shelter to adopt me. After all, I am a STAR!

By the way, you can see me on KGW by going to If you move the curser forward to the point where there's about 4 minutes 30 seconds to go, you can see my interview.
