River Road widening project
The River Road project includes and asphalt overlay and shoulder widening between Farmington Road and Scholls Ferry Road.
During construction, traffic will be restricted to one lane controlled by flaggers between 8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m., and lanes will be narrow. Expect delays and/or use alternate routes. Work began in summer 2018 and is expected to take one month.
Overlays extend the life of a road by adding to the road surface. Wider roads improve safety, particularly in the case of River Road, which has significant multi-modal traffic, including bicycles, pedestrians and large farm equipment.
This section of River Road, between Farmington Road and Scholls Ferry Road, is the only portion without widened shoulders between Hillsboro and Beaverton. All travelers are expected to benefit from this project.
The work will be done by a contractor. It is funded by the County Road Fund, which includes revenue from state and county gas taxes, vehicle registration fees and weight-mile fees paid by trucks.
